My dreams were simple. College, a career, and let’s see what happens from there. But things don’t always go according to plan.
My name is Ari Worthington and I’ve had a very eventful week. A life-changing week. The kind of week that would make the average person whimper.
It started when my ex-boyfriend Luke accosted me in the woods.
How badly was I injured? Not a scratch. And Luke? Not so lucky. Nope, I whupped him good. It surprised the heck out of me. And it probably surprised him, too—once he woke up.
And then I met Davin. Handsome, witty, amazing Davin. Perfect in every way, unless you think being an alien, from a planet called Olympus, might be a liability.

When it comes to being a husband and wife (or wife and husband) writing team, there are advantages, or benefits. Chief among them is that you get to practice the love scenes. He writes, she steers, and…well, it’s fun. He is a software designer and she is a doctor of education. AJ and CS Sparber live in the lovely town of Hudson, Ohio, with their son Ryan, their daughter Melanie, and the spirit of an Aussie shepherd named Hunter.

I don’t want to be alone in the guest suite. It’s not that I’m afraid. I just want Davin close to me. I need the comfort only he can provide.
“I’d rather not sleep alone tonight.”
“Ari, your mother—I promised her.”
“I don’t intend for us to do anything that would cause that promise to be broken. Please?”
He moves to my side and places his hand on my shoulder. “Are you sure?”
I stand up and wrap my arms around his neck. “I’m very sure,” I whisper, speaking directly to his heart. “I want you near me.”
“I know you do. But…”
“No buts,” I say softly. “I’m an angel. And I happen to be in love with you.”
He looks startled. He looks as if he wants to speak, but he can’t find his voice.
“Do you not want me to love you, Davin?”
He arches his brow and stares.
I’m getting worried. Did I just make a complete fool of myself? “Davin?”
His poise seems to return and he smiles. “It happened the night we slept on your sofa—”
“What? What happened?” Did I miss something? Something important?
His smile widens and lights up his eyes. They’re sparkling like jewels.
“I fell in love with you that night.”
My heart flutters and I feel warm all over. “You did?”
He nods slowly. “I did.”
“You didn’t tell me.”
“I wasn’t sure how you felt. Love between two angels is a very powerful force. It is...”
“Forever,” I say, completing his thought. “Are you afraid I don’t understand that? Do you think my human side makes me prone to frivolous fits of infatuation? Because if you do, please allow me to set you straight.” I take a long breath and gaze into his eyes. “I am in love with you, there will never be anyone else, and that’s all there is to it.”
He shakes his head and chuckles.
“What?”
“This is why I love you.”
“It is? What is?”
“I believe the term is moxie. You are bold and fearless. You are spunky.”
“You love me because I’m spunky?”
“Well, that…and because you are kind, and selfless, and brilliant, and very beautiful?”
“You think I’m all that?”
He loses his voice again and just stares.
“Davin?”
“Come here, my Padawan.”
Before I can respond, he laces his fingers through my hair and pulls me tight to his chest. “You are the most extraordinary angel ever born and I…I am the most fortunate.”
He kisses the top of my head, as he whispers, “Forever and never ending.”
His words and his touch make me shudder with ecstasy. “Kiss me, Davin. Kiss me like your life depends on it.”
“It does,” he says, as he captures my upper lip softly between his teeth.
Our kiss deepens and I smile inside, because I realize that each kiss we share seems to be better than the ones before, and we have eons of time and kisses to look forward to.

SEASONS WITHIN

by Lele Iturrioz

Acorn Publishing
December 15th 2016
YA Fantasy

Most teenage girls know their name, where they came from, who they are. Not G, a beautiful redhead with unusual markings on her wrist. She gets her name from a silver locket she keeps around her neck, unaware the engraved letter “G” on its front holds the secret to her past.
G’s life before the age of six has been a mystery to her. Each night for the last twelve years she’s been haunted by the same nightmare—a war. Horrendous beasts, warriors able to wield the four elements, and a boy who saves her by means of blue fire taunt her memory. But on her eighteenth birthday, G’s life begins to unravel. When she meets her new Chemistry professor, a man with an uncanny resemblance to the boy who saves her, she knows there must be more to her dreams.
It’s dangerous not knowing who you are, what you’re capable of, and what future awaits you. Especially when the darkness that slaughtered your entire world, just found you.

Wednesday…
The day was warmer than usual; the sun was out, the wind wasn’t that cold, and there was no sign of snow. It seemed completely strange not having to use a sweater by that time of the year, and luckily, one of the teachers decided to have an outside class so they could all enjoy the weather.
G was leaning against a tree taking notes while the teacher lectured. G loved being outside, being in nature. There, on the grass, with the sky above her and the smell of fresh air, was where G felt the most comfortable.
“I’m so hungry,” whispered Priyam as she played around with her computer.
   “You’re always hungry.”
“I say we sneak away and go to the cafeteria,” Priyam proposed while pretending to take notes. “I already know this subject so I can help you prepare for the exam.”
“What if the teacher finds out? I don’t think we should go,” said G.
   “My treat.”
G shoved her notebook inside her bag. “I’m ready.”
Priyam giggled, packed her computer, and they both sneaked around through the trees.

While walking around the trees, G had a strange impulse to look to the main building, and there he was, Mr. Blau staring at her from the distance. G stopped and stared back. This was the third day in a row she’d gotten a glimpse of him. It was as if everywhere she went he followed, or maybe it was the other way around.
SNAP!!! One of the tree branches moved and slapped G right on the face. “Damn it!”
Priyam turned around and saw G with her red cheek and confused expression, “What happened?”
“I don’t know. The tree branch just slapped me. ”
“You walked into a tree branch?” Priyam laughed.
G rubbed her red cheek. Pounding pain ran through her cheek and down her neck. “I didn’t walked into it, it moved by itself.”
Priyam raised her eyebrows and smirked, “It moved by itself?”
“Yes, I was looking at the building and it snapped against me.”
“Your cheek looks puffy, we can put some ice on it in the cafeteria.”
G followed Priyam and for the second time that day, she had another urge to look at the main building. G saw Mr. Blau still looking at her but this time his face was different, he looked concerned and… angry? Why would he be angry? Could it be that he thinks I’m a mess for skipping class?
Just to push Mr. Blau’s buttons, G lifted her hand and waved at him. He shook his head in disapproval, turned around, and strode away. G grinned at his childish reaction.
SNAP!! Another tree branch slapped G knocking her to the ground.

Priyam ran towards her. She couldn’t stop laughing, “Seriously G, how are you still alive at this age?”

And here she is. . .

Review: Sixteen by Jen Estes

SIXTEEN
The Dreamwalker Diaries, Book 2
by Jen Estes
YA Fantasy/Science Fiction
Curiosity Quills Press
268 pages

Six months ago, Ashling Campbell’s life was good. Okay, so the sleep deprivation sucked, but that’s what happens when you’re murdered by bloodthirsty demons on a nightly basis via freaky supernatural nightmares. That’s why she stepped up to her calling as a dreamwalker. But if she’d known that saving her town meant giving up everyone she loved, she’d have let that call go straight to voicemail.

She wants another chance. Just one. And the key to that chance lies with finding the mysterious stranger who disappeared shortly after her life went to hell. Her new mission is to dreamwalk again, or die trying.
The Jumlin wants another chance too. Just one. And the key to that chance lies with finding the weird sophomore who showed up just before he could summon hell on earth. His new mission is to stop the line of dreamwalkers, by killing just one – a girl that seems all too eager to die.

If Ash’s plan is to succeed, she’ll have to outsmart the immortal demon, piece together her thorny family tree, deal with a friend’s untimely return, and pass her driver’s test – all before she turns… SIXTEEN.

MY TIDBITS

The weave of teenage drama, time travel, Indian myths, and demons creates a fast-paced adventure and unexpected surprises around every corner.

Ash stopped the horrible future of a demon rule, but now, it's her own past that she can't accept. Determined to stop her mother's death, Ash searches for a way to dreamwalk again. But time is a fickle thing--trying to correct a 'wrong' doesn't necessarily make things turn out for the better. It can make them worse. Much worse.

I read the first book, Fifteen, before diving into Sixteen and don't recommend reading book two as a stand-alone, since the plot of this second book builds on Ash's background and the events in book one.

The goal in book one was pretty much set--Ash needed to save the future from the demon rule. In Sixteen, this is no longer the case. Although the demon still needs to be kept at bay, Ash is now acting on her own interests. This not only gives more depth to Ash, but opens up a whole new realm of possibilities. Ash makes mistakes, and these are no longer easy to fix. She struggles as she has to learn how far to push things and when to let them be added heart-break and sympathy. Plus, it was interesting to see how even tiny actions could bring about tremendous consequences.

The other characters come to life in this book as their histories, personalities, desires and problems gain influence on the plot. This created not only more room for unexpected twists, but added the layers missing in book one. Especially Skylar slides out of the background and wins a nice touch. But the relationship with several of the other characters makes Ash makes more interesting than before. There's more concentration on questions concerning family and relationships, and Ash searches for herself in this direction now too. In other words, I simply enjoyed this second book more than the first.

The pacing is steady, offering a nice balance between action and character development. Even the evil demon becomes more interesting as he takes on a slightly different position to reach his goals.

Summed up, this is a lovely read for fans of time travel, demons and teenage struggles, and it'll be fun to see where book three will take Ash and her dreamwalking next.

And since this is read best after book one, FIFTEEN. . .

Sneak Peek: Revelations by T. Marie Alexander with Giveaway

REVELATIONS
by T. Marie Alexander
 January 27th 2017
YA Contemporary

Have you ever craved something so badly that all reason was just an excuse getting in your way?
Have you needed something so desperately that you didn’t care how you got it or who you hurt in the process?
I have—and not that long ago.
Acceptance.
Acceptance… from family and friends…
Acceptance of the person I am inside and not outright rejection.
It didn’t come easily for me, and now I believe the world needs to know just how ruthless life can be. How that overwhelming yearning for acceptance can mold you into someone you don’t recognize when you look in the mirror. I’m through hiding behind one façade after another—it’s time for the world to meet the real me.
~Antoinette Justice

EXCERPT

I turn the music off, turn to face him, and ask, “What is it?”
“I don’t know watcha talkin’ ’bout,” is all he says. Now, I could leave it alone and let him talk to me when he wants, but there’s no fun in that.
“Come on, Brad. Spit it out.”
He doesn’t spit it out, just keeps driving us wherever we’re going. When we leave town, I give up on talking to him. He’s impossible when he gets like this. It almost makes me wish I hadn’t started talking to him. Okay, so that’s a pretty terrible lie. My life got immensely better once I allowed Brad to take over, but when he gets like this, it is frustrating. I know what he’s upset about. Just want the thunder to be over so we can get back to the sunshine and rainbows.
After two hours of driving in silence, we finally make a stop at a funky looking shop with a day glow sign that reads, “I tell your past, present, future.” I glance over to Brad, a little worried. He brought me to a freakin’ fortuneteller. I hope he knows they are a bunch of con artists.
“I use ta come here for advice.” He finally says something to me. It’s not what I want to hear. This is ridiculous. But I don’t tell him that. “I think ya need some advice ’bout life.”
“Not from a con artist.”
“She’s not a con artist. Madame Mercy is different. She sees into ya soul. And she doesn’t charge.”
Ha!
Madame Mercy? There’s no way I will ever talk to someone named Madame Mercy. She sounds like the Wicked Witch of the West. And a fortuneteller who doesn’t charge has to be up to something. She’s probably worse than the ones that do. Either way, there is no way I’m stepping foot into this overly hippied out acid house. I sit back in the seat, which I swear has other life forms growing on it, and cross my arms. If he wants me to go inside that whacko’s shop, he’s gonna have to drag me inside, kicking and screaming. I’m not goin’.
“Take me home,” I demand.
“No, Anna. Ya goin’. I’m tired of watchin’ ya destroy ya life. You’re better than dat.”
“This isn’t ’bout life. This is about Kaz and everyone else.”
“If by everyone else, you mean Nick.”
My face heats up at the mention of Nick. I shouldn’t be attracted to a married man. I know the consequences of wanting a married man. Besides the obvious, he’s a teacher and I’m only fifteen, being attracted to him will only derail my progress with Kaz. What I don’t understand is why Brad cares so much. He’s been getting on to me nonstop about older guys. Women are allowed to be attracted to older guys. Where is it written that is some taboo thing? I know I can’t do anything, not that I want to. I’m not ready for that. But there is nothing wrong with being friends. I want friends. I need friends. And they give me that.
“There’s something ’bout ya that makes a good guy give into temptation.”

And here she is. . .

The Metropolitan Times
June 24, 196…
At nine o’clock yesterday morning, following ninety days of fruitless searching, billionaire industrialist and businessman Lyndon Surway was officially pronounced dead. Mr. Surway was last seen by members of his staff departing from the main airplane hangar of his estate a few minutes past eight in the morning, flying alone aboard one of his aircraft. His last recorded words to the command center crew of his hangar were: “Clear skies and mild winds. Perfect visibility, or as perfect as I could hope, for as long as I can tell. Gentlemen, I wish you a thorough enjoyment of this fine day.” Nothing unusual was noted in his language or behavior.
The late Mr. Surway often took his plane out with no stated destination. But this time, he failed to return at the customary hour of six in the evening. As no word had been received from him, the kitchens were advised that he would likely dine outside. At ten o’clock on the following morning, when there was still no news of Mr. Surway or his aircraft, the Steward of the House alerted the municipal, state, and federal authorities, and a search began for the missing magnate. But no airport, hotel, hospital or inn within fuel’s range of the estate could provide any information. Dozens of interviews bore no result. Countless journalists and detectives rushed in from every corner of the country, but none of them could unearth a single clue regarding Mr. Surway’s whereabouts. Not even the Steward could guess where Mr. Surway had gone. On the morning of his disappearance, Mr. Surway had only told him: “My day is free and so am I.”
Fifteen infantry troops were dispatched, with over a hundred hound dogs, across more than two hundred miles of hills and valleys surrounding the town of Spring Forge, where Mr. Surway lived. The infantry and the dogs found nothing. The Air Force then loaned eighteen jet-powered aircraft to continue the search. The Navy joined the effort with five ships, sixteen helicopters, and four submarines to scour the coastal regions, islands, and ocean floor within flying range of the Eastern Seaboard. Again nothing was found. Finally then, a large-scale search was conducted through the grounds and the buildings of Surway House itself, led by seven hundred volunteers from Spring Forge and other towns throughout the valley. Still they found nothing. Yesterday marked three months since Mr. Surway’s disappearance. The aircraft was legally declared lost, and its owner deceased. Mr. Surway, estimated for each of the past twelve years to be the wealthiest man in the Western Hemisphere, leaves behind no known relatives.

And here he is. . .
